Several years ago St. John’s refurbished its basement not only for its own Sunday School use, but also to open the space to the wider community. Pine Village Pre-School found a home with us there.  Their mission is to educate and nurture each child’s individuality within a culturally diverse, bilingual community so that every child develops a true passion for learning and an ability to engage in any environment and community.

A FAR CRY

A Far Cry is Boston's multiple Grammy nominated, self-conducted orchestra whose mission is to ignite a love for music and utilize its power to bring people together locally and across the globe. According to the Boston Globe, "A Far Cry has decisively established itself as a mainstay of the Boston musical community, something about it feels perpetually fresh with every performance". The eighteen Criers are proud to call Boston home, and maintain strong roots in the city, rehearsing at their storefront music center in downtown Jamaica Plain. Collaborating with local students through an educational partnership with the New England Conservatory and Project STEP, A Far Cry aims to pass on the spirit of collaboratively-empowered music to the next generation.

The Apollo Ensemble

Founded in 2018 by Elias Miller and Michael Tabak and conducted by Elias Miller, The Apollo Ensemble of Boston is a 60-member orchestra made up of some of the area’s best musicians. Now entering its sixth season, the ensemble has already explored a diverse body of repertoire in nearly 20 well-attended and well-received concerts throughout the Greater Boston Area. Apollo brings together professional musicians, conservatory students, and amateur professionals, providing top-level players excellent performance opportunities and sharing outstanding music with Bay State audiences in accessible, free community concerts. Apollo performs its annual, critically acclaimed summer season in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation at the Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle.
During the 2023-24 season, Apollo will perform exclusively at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jamaica Plain. 

JP Social Gamers

JP Social Gamers is a local group of people who love games! We’re a diverse group representing a range of ages, ethnicities, abilities, and gender identities, with a mission to provide a welcoming and accepting space for community members to enjoy each other’s company and play a variety of tabletop games. There are no fees and no commitment required to be a part of the group.  Beginners and newcomers are welcome to come. Just show up!

Open Theatre Project is the theatre in residence at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the heart of Jamaica Plain. OTP was formed to transform lives and build thriving communities through high-quality theatrical experiences. They are dedicated to providing artistic opportunities which allow the expression of diverse ideas to traditional and non-traditional audiences. Their work is defined by the passion of individual artists in partnership with the culture of professionalism and collaboration they build around each of their creative endeavors. They welcome all backgrounds skill levels and perspectives in order to broaden voices in theater with a particular focus on developing opportunities for women people of color LGBTQ and the elderly.

Community Yoga with Shirronda

Shirronda began studying yoga over fifteen years ago. At the time she was a member of the American Tribal Style Bellydance dance troupe OmbellyCo and working for a local non-profit organization. Yoga helped to reconnect after work by using the breath to go inward, forging a mind body connection . In 2011, she become certified as a teacher and attuned in Reiki level 1, Usui lineage.

The following year she was attuned in Reiki Level 2 and began teaching weekly work place yoga classes for the NonProfit Center. Her classes are influenced by Hatha, Vinyasa, Prana Vinyasa, restorative, Kundalini and Iyengar yoga. Her specialty is transforming community and nonprofit workspaces into a welcoming oasis for mind body connection through movement and breathe. Goddard Violin STudio

The Goddard Violin Studio offers Suzuki violin instruction to children ages 4 and up in Jamaica Plain. Director Lisa Goddard teaches private lessons from her home in Forest Hills, and offers group classes and concerts at Saint John's Church. The studio provides a wonderful community of young musicians and their families, and together offers performances, both at Saint John's and around the neighborhood.
